Step through the gates and you'll feel like you've been swept back in time, with the elegant mansion that houses the hotel standing alone in a sea of greenery. The multilingual staff are here to cater to every need and they do it very well.

While it's just a short drive to the center of Guatemala City, the Hotel Quinta Real feels like it's set out in the wild, thanks to plenty of green areas that set it back from the road. You'll have amazing views of Volcan Agua and Fuego . . . the latter is frequently seen erupting late at night and can provide some spectacular live shows, as well as photo opps.

The suites here are extremely comfortable, with air conditioning and in room amenities. The rest of the hotel is just as nice, however. There's 24 hour medical aid, valet parking and a heated pool outside. Each night, there's live music at the bar, with dancing every evening. The bar serves amazing cocktails as well as imported fine wines, so even if you don't want to dance, it's an enjoyable place to relax.

Despite the elegance at Quinta Real, the prices are quite reasonable, starting out at around $100 a night.
