My memory of Guatemala comes from one of my friends from college who spent time in Central America right after graduation. She took her English skills and teacher training on an adventure that she has never regretted.
She spent a year in Panama, but was able to travel to other countries during her free time. For some reason, it was the food in Guatemala that really stuck with Emily. She actually started a recipe book for friends when she was visiting that country and I still make some of the dishes today.
Aside from the delicious food, Alice loved the people...but she liked all of the people she met in Central America! This was during the mid-80's and she found the whole area to be friendly...at least the places she visited (she was a little cautious in her adventures!).
It was this experience of my friend that led me to include a page on overseas teaching jobs on my teacher resources website. Although I was never able to travel for my teaching job, I think it remains a great option for new education graduates.
