This is a remarkable book of Mexico’s annual festival of the Days of the dead. Colorful photographs that have captured the people, the ritual, the festivities and even the peaceful vigil have amazingly described the diverse Mexican culture. John Greenleigh, a photographer that is currently based in San Francisco has travelled to Mexico and explored small towns for four different years just so he can document the extraordinary festival. He was accompanied by the evocative text of a cultural scholar Rosalind Rosoff Beimler. John’s photographs have been compiled to form an amazing book that illustrates the very interesting Days of the dead.

What I enjoy most about this book is how John has captured the beautiful scenes of the small town festivity for the days of the dead. The religious rituals are very fascinating and I can imagine myself being in the same place with the locals celebrating the traditional holiday. The illustrations of the local town is also eye catching as John captures the lively local marketplace where locals sell breads and candies that are shaped like skulls and skeletons. There are also pictures of the crowd that are waiting for the arrival of their departed loved ones through the long night of peaceful vigil.

This book will seriously entice you to experience the days of the dead in Mexico. The amazing pictures will invite you to the diverse place and visit the local towns yourself. I personally recommend this book for your collection and it is also a perfect present for people who enjoy learning about different cultures.
