Day of the Dead: Dia de Muertos is a book that expresses the joy, sorrow, and the holy ritual of public celebrations and festivals. The book recognizes the rich culture and celebration and also provides scenes as visual elements. The colorful illustrations of the book define the essence of celebrating the day of the dead. Also included in the book are explanations of this rich celebration as how Mexicans believe that the souls of the dead return every one year for a twenty-four hour visit.

What I enjoy most of the book is how the author explained why Mexicans have this kind of celebration. The festivity is actually how people welcome the dead to their former homes and greeting them with decorated altars and offerings of food and gifts. You can very well appreciate how Mexicans look forward to this day of the year. Aside from the informative background, you can also enjoy the pictures and photographs of the festivities.

I personally recommend this book especially if you are planning to visit Mexico during this celebration. You will be enticed by the photographs that capture people’s sincerity and enjoyment through their facial expressions. This book is a good buy because it gives an honest approach on what you can expect during the festivity.
