As Christmas time approaches in Guatemala, you will hear many popular Christmas carols in Spanish in schools, at the mall, and as you're driving or walking among the shops. Below you'll find the lyrics to Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful in Spanish (or Venid, Adoremos) and you can watch a video of Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful being sung in Spanish, as well.
Also known as Adeste Fideles in Spanish, attribution of the song goes to an English composer named John Francis Wade. However, the song's exact origin and authorship remains a mystery up to this day. There were speculations that it was written by John of Reading in the 13th century but no proof has ever been found. Wade's name has also been included in the list of would be authors, but nothing has been concluded so far. Even the song's lyrics have unknown beginnings with no trace for the researchers to find its source. The song has many translations but the most popular version is the one done by Frederick Oakeley, an English Roman Catholic priest.
Venid, adoremos,
Con alegre canto;
Venid al pueblito de Belén.
Hoy ha nacido
El Rey del los ángeles.
Venid y adoremos,
Venid y adoremos,
Venid y adoremos
A Cristo Jesús.
Cantadle loores,
Coros celestiales;
Resuene el eco angelical.
Gloria cantemos
Al Dios del cielo.
Venid y adoremos,
Venid y adoremos,
Venid y adoremos
A Cristo Jesús.
Señor, nos gozamos
En tu nacimiento;
Oh Cristo, a ti ,La gloria será.
Ya en la carne,
Verbo del Padre.
Venid y adoremos,
Venid y adoremos,
Venid y adoremos
A Cristo Jesús.
Oh, come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant!
Oh, come ye, oh, come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him
Born the king of angels:
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
Highest, most holy,
Light of light eternal,
Born of a virgin, A mortal he comes;
Son of the Father
Now in flesh appearing!
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God
In the highest:
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh, come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
