This tune is sure to bring joy this Christmas season. Its lyrics were based from the Christian bible's Psalm 98 or the Psalms of David. It talks about Jesus Christ's return at the end of age and not about his birth. However, it is still considered as a Christmas song nevertheless. Written by Isaac Watts and arranged by Lowell Mason, the song dates back to the 1700s. Mason based the melody to one of Handel's compositions. Famous recordings of this song include renditions by The Supremes in 1965, Andy Williams in 1974, Mariah Carey in 1994 and Whitney Houston in 1996. Variations of the lyrics have been adapted over the years but the original version still remains the one commonly sung in churches and other holiday gatherings.
